It is a big issue and eventually will be the 'biggest issue.'

Traditionally within the construction industry
the green debate has been an unaffordable
luxury. This situation cannot be ignored as the earth's
resources are put under increasing pressure. Together
with the Carbon debate this has to be a major factor in
any construction project.

We all have a responsibility to minimise the
environmental impact of our day to day activities and
we take a market leading approach to the protection
of our environment. Our ISO 14001 Environmental
Accreditation demonstrates our approach to this all
important subject.

It may be as simple as co-ordinating your workforce
to share transport to work helping reduce your Carbon
Footprint. Our fleet of low emission crew buses help us
get our workforce to site whilst minimising fuel usage.

The construction process is historically a big user of
landfill for waste disposal. Our review of all waste
management procedures has ensured that working
with a number of key waste management companies
has yielded innovative ways of disposing and recycling
waste arising from our construction activities.

Case Study: Carpet Tile Re-use

Summary
Carpet Recycling UK is leading the development of a
carpet tile re-use network to provide an energy efficient alternative to landfill, where an estimated 80,000 tonnes of carpet tile ends up each year in the UK.

During dilapidations works of large scale office buildings in Manchester, the contractor Amspec was able to utilise this network to remove and redistribute 5000m2 of existing floor tile for resale as affordable flooring for low income customers.

As reuse represents the most resource efficient solution for disposal of used carpet tile, Amspec were able to meet the high environmental standards which were set by their client, Friends Provident.

sustainable fitouts within office buildings. Amspec
are keen to improve energy and environmental
performance of fitout projects and with the support
and backing of our clients, look to utilise the ska rating scheme.
