Amspec refurbish cafe for local charity, Embrace Wigan & Leigh

Embrace are a local charity who are dedicated to supporting disabled people and their families. At Amspec, we always like to make sure we're giving back to the local community. After learning about Embrace and their mission to make sure everyone is included in their local community, we knew their values aligned with our own and asked if we could help them in their upcoming refurbishment project.

Chris, the Executive Officer at Embrace had recently secured the café area in their current building and wanted to transform the space into something that would bring the local community together, whilst helping those in need.

After consulting with the people who use Embrace's services, Chris explained that he wanted to create a light, colourful area that would be used as not only a local café for nearby residents but also as a training centre, to help those in need learn new skills to work and re-integrate back into the community. He also wanted to create a shop where they can sell handmade items created by members of the charity - such as crafted occasion cards and jams and preserves using crops from their outdoor garden. The proceeds will be used to bring in extra revenue for the charity.

The plan is for Amspec to refurbish the café area as well as designing and manufacturing a number of bespoke joinery items that will help them achieve this goal, such as:

  • Mobile display units that will allow the space to adapt to both café and training settings.
  • An internal planter with a recycling station that will encourage eco-friendly habits as well as providing a place for herbs and plants to be grown and maintained by the charity.
  • A new DDA-compliant worktop that ensures the café enhances both the diversity and togetherness that the charity values so highly.

We would like to thank the following companies for either donating items or giving us discounted rates to allow us to carry out the project:

  • Air seating & Mobili for providing discounted rates of furniture
  • I Want Plants for donating various live plants.
  • Commercial Blinds for providing discounted window blinds.
  • Advantage Decor for completing the decoration works.
  • Polyfloor and Aspect Flooring for providing discounted rates for flooring.

We would also like to thank Embrace Wigan & Leigh for allowing us to be a part of this project. We look forward to getting stuck in with the refurb. Watch this space for the transformation pictures!
