Designed to be the central feature of the MGY reception, this bespoke helical staircase was constructed in Amspec’s joinery workshop, combining elegant design with precise, detailed execution. Its smooth, flowing curves form a striking visual statement, merging practicality with a sculptural quality. The warm tones of the timber bring a welcoming, refined character to the space.

Working with RJ Edwards, who supplied the steel frame, Amspec clad the structure with veneered panels, solid oak treads, and a solid oak capping. The steel design was adjusted in the pre-construction phase to streamline joinery installation on site.

Solid oak kite treads were finished with a durable, high-friction lacquer and fitted with linear nosings. The helix was built up with flexible plywood and veneered in situ. A 3D scan of the installed staircase ensured the 5-axis CNC machined capping and handrail fit with complete precision.
